Irving Berlin Salutes America

The Plaza Theatre proudly presents the musical revue, Irving Berlin Salutes America.  The show celebrates the works of prolific composer and lyricist Irving Berlin, a Russian born immigrant known for his fierce America patriotism.  During his sixty years of composing Berlin wrote more than 850 songs featured in some nineteen Broadway shows and eighteen films.  Among his many awards are three Tony Awards and one Grammy Award.  Of Irving Berlin, fellow composer Jerome Kern said “Irving Berlin has no place in American music, he IS American music!”.   With an election year upon us, what better way to remind ourselves of the freedoms that define being an American, than with the heartfelt, patriotic music of Irving Berlin.

The two-act show, directed by Kevin Black, and featuring a cast of four talented local performers includes such memorable songs as: “We’re Having A Heat Wave”, “Always”, “I Love A Piano”, “Blue Skies’, “Shaking The Blues Away”, “Puttin’ On The Ritz”, “Cheek To Cheek”, “Oh, How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning”, “I Got Lost In His Arms”, “Alexander’s Rag Time Band”, “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, and “God Bless America”.

This Plaza Theatre production of Irving Berlin Salutes America will run from August 17th – September 9th, 2012, with evening show times at 7:30 p.m, and matinee performances available at 2:00 p.m. The Plaza Theatre is located at 262 S.
