Pig Tale – An Urban Faerie Story

Island City Stage and Empire Stage are pleased to announce their co-production of the play Pig Tale – An Urban Faerie Story by Chris Weikel January 3 – February 2, 2013. Pig Tale is the second collaboration between Island City Stage and Empire Stage and follows their critically acclaimed production of The Twentieth Century Way. “Pig Tale is a complete departure from the intellectual dexterity of The Twentieth Century Way,” Rogow explains: “It’s a frothy comedy with a lot of heart; but it’s themes of fear of commitment, lack of communication and the effort required to create a relationship will resonate with all audience members”.

For anyone who’s ever found themselves staring at their partner – wondering what in the world happened to that hot, handsome man they first started dating – playwright Chris Weikel is happy to explain it in his own twisted bedtime story. Set in the wilds of New York’s East Village, Chris Weikel’s Pig Tale explores some of our worst dating fears – including commitment, cuddling and settling down together in a comedic urban faerie tale with a twist. Johnny and Dave have been dating casually until one night, upon returning from their favorite leather bar, Dave turns into a pig—literally!  Will the morning after turn into happily ever after? Can Johnny’s stoner friend Kyle or the mysterious trannie from down the street help? Now challenged with having to care for Dave and find a way to turn him back, Johnny discovers that the true fairy tale transformation might need to be his own. This “bedtime” story is definitely not the kind of fairy tale your grandma read to you!

Pig Tale – An Urban Faerie Story will be performed at Empire Stage, 1140 N. Flagler Dr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304, beginning January 3, 2013.
