Stars of David

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts will present the premiere of the first national tour of the New York hit song cycle Stars of David from Tuesday, December 23, 2014 -Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the Amaturo Theater.  The premiere is presented as part of the 2014-15 Off-Broadway Series sponsored by CYN Claim Your Nightlife Nightclub. 

Presented by Daryl Roth in association with Harbor Entertainment, the tour will feature local Carbonell Award-winners Patti Gardner and Avi Hoffman joined by Cassie Levine and Mike Westrich in this funny and captivating Off-Broadway musical revue that celebrates the Jewish identity of America’s most notable public figures set to original music by theater’s finest composers and lyricists.  

You don’t have to be Jewish to relate to the humorous and poignant material based on autobiographical stories by Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Edgar Bronfman, Sr., Andy Cohen, Kenneth Cole, Fran Drescher, Michael Feinstein, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Tony Kushner, Norman Lear, Leonard Nimoy, Gwyneth Paltrow, Joan Rivers, Ruth Reichl, Aaron Sorkin and Gloria Steinem. 

Based on the best-selling book by Abigail Pogrebin, and conceived by the author and Aaron Harnick, the revue features the last song composed by Marvin Hamlisch, as well as others created specifically for the show by Gaby Alter, Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Susan Birkenhead, Michael Feinstein, Michael Friedman, Amanda Green, Gordon Greenberg, Sheldon Harnick, Jill Kargman, Tom Kitt, Lisa Lambert, Richard Maltby, Jr., Daniel Messé, Chris Miller, Itamar Moses, Abigail Pogrebin, Steven Sater, Alan Schmuckler, Duncan Sheik, David Shire, Jeanine Tesori and Nathan Tysen. 

Stars of David performances are: Tuesday through Thursday, December 23  to 25 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 27 at 3 and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, December 28 at 1 and 6 p.m.; Tuesday, December 30 at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, December 31 at 7 p.m.; Thursday, January 1 at 1 p.m.; Friday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, January 3 at 3 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, January 4 at 1 p.m.  Special pricing for the preview performances on December 23 and 24 is $36.
