Summer Shows at the Plaza Theatre

Summer time is here and the Plaza Theatre has a cool line up of entertainment, guaranteed to please everyone during the hot summer nights! Kicking off with the best of Bernstein, the “busiest theater in town” also hosts cabaret shows celebrating Johnny Mercer, Broadway’s leading men, and the Jewish influence in musicals – for a summertime-only price! Then it’s “move over Il Divo, Bocelli and Boyle” as the Plaza presents Popera. Finally, audiences spoke and the Plaza listened, and the Theatre is bringing back the musical tribute to Brice, Cantor and Jolson!

July 10 – 27, 2014: Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Music from West Side Story, Candide, On The Town, Wonderful Town and Peter Pan and more – the music of Broadway’s great Leonard Bernstein is celebrated during this fun-filled tribute. Tickets are $38 each

 

POPERA

July 28 & 30, 2014: July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and July 30 at 2 p.m.

A beautiful blend of Pop, Opera, Light Opera, and Operetta in the style of Josh Groban, Il Divo,and Andrea Bocelli – Popera will delight lovers of music of all ages. This one of a kind show features some of the most talented singers in South Florida coming together for the love of song. Tickets start at $30 each

 

YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU

The Music of Al Jolson, Fanny Brice & Eddie Cantor

August 14 – September 14, 2014: Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Last September, audiences raved over You Made Me Love You – A tribute to Brice, Cantor & Jolson, and thanks to popular demand, the electrifying show returns! Featuring top hits from all three including “My Man”, “Second Hand Rose”, “If You Knew Susie”, “Makin’ Whoopee”, “Yes Sir, That’s My Baby”, “Baby Face”, “California Here I Come”, “Swanee”, “The Anniversary Waltz”, “You Made Me Love You” and more.  Top musical talents pay tribute to the incomparable trio of vaude-villians turned Broadway and movie stars: Fanny Brice, Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson. The Music of Johnny Mercer

July 12 – 14 and 19 – 21, 2014: Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m.

He wrote some of the greatest songs of all time, including Hooray for Hollywood, Tangerine, Come What May and many, many more. The immensely talented John Lariviere brings his vocal and performance talents to the stage to honor the man behind “Moon River”.

The Jewish Influence on Broadway

August 9 – 18, 2014
Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m.

Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim – these are only a few of the highly recognizable names that helped shape, and continue to shape, the sounds of modern day Broadway. This special series performed by the award winning Wayne LeGette reveals the full scope of the Jewish influence on the most recognizable songs and shows on the Great White Way.

 

LEADING MEN OF STAGE AND SCREEN MUSICALS

September 6 – 15, 2014
Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m.

They were called a “triple threat” –  the men who could sing, dance and act on stage and screen.  Men like Gene Kelly, Robert Goulet, Gordon MacRae and more are showcased in this series performed by “triple threat” musical theatre leading man James Cichewicz.

The Plaza Theatre, a not-for-profit 250-seat theatre, is home to a variety of light-hearted shows, with an occasional gripping drama, that will please every show-goer.
