Jimmy Mak’s – Love Song to a Hometown Haunt

Jazz vocalist Karla Harris at Jimmy Mak's. www.KarlaHarris.com

Greetings from the West Coast! I’m on a quick trip home and I thought I would step in as a guest blogger for Portland – my almost hometown!

Jimmy Mak’s is a Rose City landmark and deservedly so. In a town that’s a little short on an abundance of regular hot spots for regional musicians, Jimmy Mak’s fills that niche remarkably well. Tickets can be a little steep for Portland prices, but more often than not, the music is worth the price of admission.

You’re likely to stumble upon legendary drummer Mel Brown headlining or sitting in on a session. (Brown is a regular performer at the club.) Jimmy Mak’s also brings in quite a few great blues acts throughout the year. Coming up on January 7th, check out the incredible blues harmonica player, Curtis Salgado, headlining at Jimmy Mak’s.

It always warms my little jazzy heart to see great music flourishing in my green (and wet!) home state and Jimmy Mak’s is certainly carrying the torch for great arts in Oregon!
