newMoves in Full “Bloom”

The Kelly Strayhorn Theater will be hosting a number of local, Ohio, Philadelphia and New York choreographers as well as BLOOM! Dance Collective from Hungary as a part of newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival.

The three-day program will feature 16 choreographers, 42 dancers and 5 live musician. For the first time, the festival will also include symposiums, “featuring leaders in the dance community from around the country,” according to KST’s website.

A part of the Emerging Choreographers Program at KST, the first night’s performance will feature Pittsburgh’s own Beth Ratas, Jamie Murphy and Renee Danielle Smith, Alan Obuzur and Jasmine Hearn. Philadelphia’s Shannon Murphy and New York’s Simone Sobers Dance will also be presenting.

Night two will feature the August Wilson Dance Ensemble, Marjani Forte (NYC), idiosynCrazy Productions (NYC) and anonymous bodies || art collective (PHL); night three Gia Cacalano (PGH), Jaamil Kosoko (PHL); STAYCEE PEARL dance project (PGH), Andre Koslowski (PA), Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project (OH).

CITY by BLOOM! Dance Collective is the only international work and will be performed on both the second and third nights after the other evenings’ works.
