Since its founding in 1977, the Mattress Factory (MF) has reached out to the Pittsburgh community with a variety of unique contemporary art exhibits and arts-related events. To follow up the success of its annual Black Friday Family Day, the Mattress Factory (MF) gets into the holiday spirit on December 30 when the museum hosts its all-ages ART pARTy!
Located at 500 Sampsonia Way in Pittsburgh’s historic North Side, the MF will host arts and crafts activities in its lobby from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. In honor of the Nika Kupyrova installation on the building’s third floor, patrons can make their own DIY Roadkill or design stuffed creations using fabric and clothing remnants. Kupyrova, a mixed media artist who uses what she describes as “re-assembled found materials to explore the inherent narratives and poetics of living spaces”, will be featured at the MF through May 1.
In addition, participants can prepare for New Year’s at the special HAT-LAB, where they can create one-of-a-kind festive head wear perfect for holiday revelries. Boys and girls are also invited to get down at the MF’s New Year’s pre-party.
The ART pARTy is free with museum admission.
