Under the baton of Michael Kissinger, the group has toured all around the Northwest and traveled in 2001 to …more…

Pink Martini

Perhaps Portland’s best known musical export today is Pink Martini, a multi-cultural, genre-defying mini-orchestra that spends as much (if not more) time touring clubs and concert halls around the world as it does in its home town.  The group was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where pianist and leader Thomas Lauderdale and vocalist China Forbes met as students at Harvard University.  The pair shared diverse musical tastes and a love of …more…

Portland Chamber Orchestra

The Portland Chamber Orchestra is, today, one of America’s oldest and most respected chamber orchestras. The ensemble was founded in 1947 by Boris Sirpo and was initially composed of entirely Lewis & Clark College music students. Since then, the orchestra has expanded to its current makeup of professionals from all around the Northwest. Numerous conductors have stood at the PSO podium including John Trudeau, Paul Bellam, Sylvan Fremaux, Charles Schneider …more…

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

Vancouver, Washington is often overlooked given its close proximity to the Northwest’s up-and-coming metropolitan mecca, Portland. But Vancouver has it’s own vibrant arts scene, with one of the finest examples being the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a 75-member ensemble led by Maestro Salvador Brotons.

The Symphony began in 1972 as the Vancouver Chamber Orchestra, with 20 members under the direction of Larry Hirtzel. They became the Vancouver Community Orchestra, which later joined …more…
