The Angelika Film Center is an oasis in a desert of mediocre multiplexes. At the Angelika, independent movies and foreign fare are the focus, but high-quality Hollywood flicks sometimes turn up here too. With eight screens, there’s plenty of room for variety, including special events like hi-def screenings of awards shows and sporting events, dinner-and-a-movie specials, and weekday “cry-baby” matinées where parents are invited to bring their infants.
Part of the fun of going to the Angelika is that it has a completely different vibe than the average movie theater. The seating is comfortable and roomy and the venue also boasts a cool café with iced drinks, imported beer, and gourmet eats.
