Billed as “L.A.’s classical theater ensemble,” Antaeus began operations at Center Theatre Group in the early 1990s with a core group of 36 actors. Today, the ensemble numbers more than 100. Productions here range from the Greeks to Shakespeare, Shaw, and Molière, from Chekhov and Ibsen to works by such writers of modern classics as Tennessee Williams, Samuel Beckett, Arthur Miller, and Eugene O’Neill.
Antaeus is known for its training of classical actors, its arts education programs, and its extensive classical theater library. Currently in residence at Deaf West Theatre, the company hopes to create a permanent home, The Antaeus Center for the Classics, in the heart of the NoHo Arts District.
