Anthology is one of the newest music spots in San Diego, the brainchild of owners Howard and Marsha Berkson. This venue aspires to combine the best elements of fine dining and live music. Popular local chef Todd Allison was hired (away from another prestigious San Diego restaurant) in 2010 to revamp Anthology’s menu. The music calendar is diverse; in one week one might see artists as diverse as blues rock legend Coco Montoya, jazz keyboardist and producer George Duke, and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks. The space itself is very modern, expansive enough to accommodate large crowds but maintain a feeling of intimacy. Cover charges vary widely depending on the performer, but the food and drink menus, while enticing, are always upscale. It’s clear by the prestige of its musical artists, culinary staff, and location (in downtown San Diego a few short blocks from the waterfront) that Anthology is shooting for the stars.
