Be Careful What You Wish For Part 287: The Return of the Monkey Paw

Micro Theatre Miami presents a new play wrapped up in an old story now through January 7th..  Inspired by the American short story The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs, playwright Leah Roth Barsanti has crafted a comedy of horrors and emotions, centering around an unhinged hospice worker (played by Renee Elizabeth Turner) who’s about to get fired by her no-nonsense boss (played by David Fisteac) for crying every time a patient dies.

Presented by Micro Theater Miami, the play will take place in a shipping container, where it will be performed six times a night. Audiences are intimate, with containers seating no more than fifteen patrons per show. And six shows run at once, so when you finish seeing Monkey Paw in Container 3 (notable for the John Lennon Portrait that adorns its face) you can have a beer or some sangria from the shipping container that doubles as a bar, and then head to Container 1 to see Murder in the Ladies Room, or Container 5 to see Exhibitionists and Voyeurs.

Monkey Paw’s director, Kati O’Hearn, has enjoyed the challenges of trying to stage this new play in such a unique space. She says, “Micro Theater is unlike any other venue in Miami. With such small audiences, you can really play with the subtly of a piece like this, which is deeper than your normal slapstick comedy. Facial expressions, muttered lines, small props… all become important.” The actors too, are enjoying all that Micro Theater has to offer. According to Renee: “I’m having a blast.”

If you have ten minutes on a Wednesday or Thursday night, and you’ve ever been yelled at for crying, you just might want to head to Micro Theater Miami to check out the world premiere of Be Careful What You Wish For Part 287: The Return of the Monkey Paw.

Tickets for Be Careful What You Wish For Part 287: The Return of the Monkey Paw are $5, and are available for purchase at Micro Theater Miami prior to the show. Shows run December 9th– January 7th on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:20, 8:50, 9:20, 9:50, 10:20, and 10:50. Micro Theatre is closed on December 17th, as well as on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.  Micro Theater is located in downtown Miami at 1490 Biscayne Boulevard.
