Since 1999, Boston Cyberarts, Inc. has presented this biennial festival to encourage new media literacy (the use of advanced electronic devices such as computers and other electronic or digital devices). The festival celebrates the endeavors of arts and technology specialists in the fields of dance, theater, music, film, visual art, and more.
Innovative events at the festival include Seekers: A Bi-Coastal Dance Improvisation, “International Steampunk City”—an aesthetic amalgam of contemporary technology and Victorian fashion—and a “chiptune concert,” in which devices such as Gameboys are used in electronic musical compositions. Presented in various Boston-area venues such as galleries, artists’ studios, colleges, and museums, the Cyberarts Festival highlights media arts being made in Boston, the New England region, and throughout the world.
