(October) The Clearwater Jazz Holiday is a four-day free event in October presenting live jazz throughout the city of Clearwater, FL, right on the Gulf of Mexico. It began in 1980, a 10-day concert series presented on the back of a flatbed truck and at venues throughout Clearwater; over the last three decades CJH has grown to become one of the major festivals in the region, drawing tens of thousands of fans each year to this small Gulf town. The festival has featured many great jazz artists under its banner, including Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock and Branford Marsalis. The Holiday is a free event, open to the public and administered by a charitable foundation, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation. In addition to presenting jazz to the greater Tampa Bay area, the Foundation supports jazz education by administering scholarships and presenting educational activities during the festival.
