(July 27–28, 2012) Las Vegas may be a dry, arid state, but not when it comes to dance. The annual Dance in the Desert Festival, a Nevada summer tradition, is a testimony to the area’s prolific and juicy dance scene, hosting local companies and choreographers as well as those from other parts of the country.

DDF was founded by Kyla A. Quintero, a prominent choreographer, director, and dancer, and Kelly Roth, Program Head of CSN Dance Program and Artistic Director of Kelly Roth & Dancers’ Concert Company. Because of their passion for promoting high quality dance, they have attracted some of the finest talent available, affording audiences the chance to see innovative new work in a wide variety of disciplines. Past participants in DDF have included, among others, Desert Dance Theater, Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater, Metropolitan Ballet, Ballet Mink, and Concert Dance Company.

Performances are held at the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre of Community College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus, offering diverse evenings for anyone interested in seeing what’s up and coming in the Vegas dance scene and beyond. (MK)
