Opened in 2000 in San Diego’s Gaslamp district, Dizzy’s has distinguished itself as the kind of venue that musicians love to play. Owned and operated solely by musician and entrepreneur Chuck Perrin, Dizzy’s is a listening room, first and foremost; here the emphasis is on the music. Soon after its opening, the club became a venue of choice for local musicians, in a climate where clubs with jazz policies were closing or eliminating their music schedules at an alarming rate. It began in a storage room in an old warehouse, and in 2007 moved (by city mandate) to the ‘event room’ of the San Diego Wine and Culinary Center. Dizzy’s calendar features mostly local and regional musicians and a smattering of out-of-towners on tour; stylistically all bases are covered, often with an interesting mix of jazz, world and popular music. Its new location allows food and beverages to be served from the menu of the Wine and Culinary Center, but here, the music still matters most.

  • Performances/Programs: Approximately 50 performances per year. Live music generally played Wednesday–Sunday at 7 or 8 p.m.
