Florida Studio Theatre produces mostly contemporary work—dramas, comedies, musical revues, one-person shows, and plays that have had recent New York productions. There is something for just about everybody at FST, though seldom does the company produce anything particularly weird or “artsy”. In keeping with company’s mission to produce new work, there is the New Play Development Program and the Richard and Betty Burdick Play Reading Series (part of the Sarasota Festival of New Plays).

FST also helps turn young people into dramatists through its “WRITE A PLAY” program. Additionally, inexperienced adults can get in on the fun by taking a playwriting course at the Adult Education Workshop. Education is vital to Florida Studio’s mission and the theater offers numerous classes, workshops, and outreach programs for people of all ages. For many of these programs, kids can apply for scholarships if they are in need of funds, and senior citizens are eligible for a 15% discount to classes.
