A contemporary based theatrical ensemble (with a healthy sense of humour), HotCity Theatre’s mantra to “not produce anything boring, long, ‘period,’ or anything related in any way to Shakespeare, knitting, or the Great Depression,” results in fresh productions with a definite pulse on the issues of “now”. Presenting six productions each season on the intimate stage of its black box theatre, past productions at HotCity have ranged from the intense (Equus, A Clockwork Orange) to the outrageous (Christopher Durang’s Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them), with explosive, affordable drama the usual name of the game.

Equally committed to the development of innovative new works, HotCity’s GreenHouse Series and New Play Festival is now entering its fifth year, fostering the nightly reading of edgy premieres on their way to fully staged production.
