Boston’s New England Conservatory (NEC) is one of the nation’s most prestigious schools of music, and the only conservatory in the nation to be included on the National Register of Historic Places.  Jordan Hall is the name of both the Conservatory’s main building and the concert hall located in the middle of that building.  Both were opened in 1903, gifts of Conservatory trustee Eben Jordan.  The dedication concert was performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and marked the beginning of Jordan Hall’s reputation as one of the nation’s most beautiful concert halls.

Today, Jordan Hall hosts hundreds of performances by NEC students and faculty, as well as some of the world’s most respected names in classical music and jazz.  NPR’s nationally syndicated program “From the Top” is broadcast weekly from Jordan; local performing ensembles including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the New England String Ensemble, and the Handel & Haydn Society perform here regularly.  The venue seats over 1,000 in a unique horseshoe configuration that allows an intimate concert-going experience, with atmosphere and acoustics unparalleled among Boston venues.
