Located on B Street in the heart of downtown San Diego and open since 1984, La Gran Tapa designates itself San Diego’s ‘original Tapas bar.’ The live music schedule here reflects the Mediterranean flavor of its menu, featuring flamenco twice a week, and gypsy jazz; various blues groups and Brazilian jazz round out the weekly calendar. Each night of the week features a regular performing group of local musicians. La Gran Tapa is a popular local spot, so reservations are often recommended and can be made online through the website. As with most tapas restaurants, La Gran Tapa’s portions are small for the price, but there is never a cover for live music.
