The New Jersey Ballet Company is somewhat unique in the New York metropolitan area in that although it is designated as a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, it focuses on bringing performances to smaller communities outside the city. Over the course of its 26-week season, the company performs a selection of classical, contemporary and jazz ballet works at 10 different venues throughout New Jersey. The company’s programming has garnered state-wide popularity, including a Jersey Arts 2009 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Dance Company.”
