Widely considered one of the most renowned artistic entities in Northern California, RMK was created in 1995 by namesake and current Artistic Director Robert Moses. With its ability to corporally express a wide diversity of themes, styles, and ideas, the company speaks to communities by expressing what is unique and common in the human experience through vivid, intelligent, and perfectly honed corporal expression.

Robert Moses has a brilliant choreographic history, during which he has utilized various styles and collaborated with some of the most gifted artists of our time, such as Alonzo King, Marcus Shelby and Will Power. Whether he is drawing from the oral traditions of African-American culture in Word of Mouth, inspiration from writer James Baldwin in Biography of Baldwin, or the joy of sheer movement in Toward September, Moses always makes us aware of our humanity. Since 2008, Moses has begun writing musical accompaniment for some of his pieces, adding to the authenticity of his vision.

Moses has choreographed for many important companies including the San Francisco Opera, Philadanco and the Oakland Ballet. The company performs nationally and internationally, expanding audience awareness through their provocative themes, exquisite dancing, and quest for breaking down barriers. In Moses’ words: “My work expresses my concern with the honor, dignity, truth and potential of real people. Human lives and beliefs are the material, the choreographic elements, of my work.” (MK)
