Founded in 1995, the Santa Barbara Jazz Society is dedicated to promoting and producing jazz performances throughout Santa Barbara.  It also serves as a database for all things jazz-related in the area, and its newsletter, Jazzette, provides in-depth information on the local scene to society members.  The Society is also dedicated to nurturing emerging jazz talent in the Santa Barbara area, and in 2002 founded a scholarship program that provides awards to local public schools and colleges to develop jazz education programs.  Most notably, the SBJS produces a series of concerts on the first Sunday of each month at SoHo Restaurant and Music Club, featuring some of Santa Barbara’s finest musicians.  The Society also is integral in bringing national and international touring acts to perform in Santa Barbara, raising the city’s profile as a destination for live jazz in Southern California.
