Founded in 2008 by director Abra Allan and project manager Hanna Campbell-Cyr, SCD is a not-for-profit presenting organization that brings dance to the fore in Santa Cruz and neighboring communities. Celebrating dance in all of its forms, SCD presents two major events during the year: National Dance Week and the Santa Cruz Ethnic Dance Festival.

National Dance Week is a yearly event celebrated in April where dance is showcased via performances, exhibitions, and free classes. In partnership with local dance studios and artists, the week abounds with classes as well as hundreds of performers.

The Santa Cruz Ethnic Dance Festival is also an annual event, featuring companies and artists from the Bay area in a two-day jubilee to raise public awareness for diverse cultures and how they express themselves through dance. With classes and performances, the festival has become a prized event where audiences can experience a wide variety of ethnic styles from around the world.

The idea of sharing cultures and expanding audience awareness regarding the richness of dance and how it affects our daily lives is at the core of what SCD stands for. By supporting collaborations between artists and their diverse visions within the art form, SCD is a huge contributor to the area’s culture.
