The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum is a professional company that produces year-round entertainment, including a Main Stage Series consisting of dramas, comedies, thrillers, and musicals; two Children’s Theatre series; and a Jazz Showcase. When the theatre opened in 1986, it was used primarily as a lecture hall that occasionally housed concerts and poetry readings as well. In 1994, the Board of Trustees of the Morris Museum decided to use the venue as a self-producing theatre for its membership. During its first six seasons, Bickford Theatre was nominated for 32 awards, won six, and placed a show in the Star-Ledger’s annual Top Ten Plays list for three consecutive years. The Bickford produces its shows under the auspices of Actors’ Equity Association and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. Additionally, the theatre offers educational opportunities for children and adults through its Brightest Star School for the Performing Arts. (MP)
