With a little help from the New Orleans Film Society, the Contemporary Arts Center shows the kinds of independent films that you won’t find anywhere else in The Big Easy. Located in a huge red brick building in the Downtown Arts District, the multidisciplinary CAC has two theaters, art galleries, a free cybercafé, and more. The CAC mounts regular exhibitions of art by local artists and hosts the Music of New Orleans concert series, which was begun not long after Hurricane Katrina as a way to give NOLA’s musicians a safe and open place to begin performing again.
