An explosive ensemble rooted in the experimental theatre traditions of France’s Ecole Jacques Lecoq, Theater Grottesco combines music, dance, and arresting visuals to create a powerfully visceral experience for its audiences. Since its conception in Paris in 1983, Theater Grottesco’s long time members have created 11 full length plays and over 30 shorter works that have been performed in Europe, the United States and around the world.
Finding inspiration in everything from Shakespeare to the stock market, favorite works out of the company’s repertoire include Grottesco’s Twelfth Night, The Angel’s Cradle and the Richest Deadman Alive! Based in Santa Fe since 1996, Grottesco is one of the southwest’s most influential artistic enterprises, with a training and residency program offering unique physical based teachings in the traditions of Commedia Dell’Arte and pantomime to colleges and other theatre companies across the United States.
