TU Dance incorporates the best of classical, modern, contemporary, and traditional dance and has gathered a repertoire that speaks to the community in a myriad of ways. Former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater dancers Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sands created the company in 2004 with the desire to compliment exceptional dancing with heart and soul. According to the two artistic directors, the company’s mission is to connect to people through various entryways, be it physical, musical, or emotional. In one way or another, every performance given by TU Dance manages to affect every individual, creating a relevancy through commonly shared sensations and feelings. Uri Sands is a powerful choreographer, able to evoke a memorable theatrical experience through what he places on stage. Creating visceral parallels between the elements and the senses, his piece Sensibility is a perfect example of theatricality mixed with internal poetry, which describes the essence of TU Dance.

Their repertoire also includes work from guest choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden and Ronald K. Brown who find inspiration in the corporal intelligence and physical prowess of the dancers. Because the company continually challenges itself to transmit a potent human experience, an evening with TU Dance always lasts beyond the final curtain call.
