(June) The newest jazz festival in New York, the Undead JazzFest is focused on what is most current in the New York jazz scene. Over two days in mid-June, three venues in downtown Manhattan are overrun with groups (over 30 in all) representing a wide spectrum of musical styles and backgrounds. All three of the venues (Le Poisson Rouge, Sullivan Hall and Kenny’s Castaways) are in close proximity to one another, creating a festival ground of sorts over a block of Manhattan’s West Village.
The UJF is co-produced by boomBOOM Presents and Search & Restore, also the presenters of the successful Winter Jazz Fest. The emphasis is on giving exposure to today’s cutting-edge yet often under-recognized jazz artists. A one day pass is $25 and includes admission to all three venues at night; a full festival pass is $30.
