Writers’ Theatre was founded in 1992. As per its name, the company values text — both classic and contemporary — as the fundamental source of inspiration, creating intimate performances during which audiences come face to face with powerful stories. Writer’s Theatre is noted for its award-winning repertoire as well as for its innovative educational programming and strong ties to the community. Recent productions have included Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire, Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, William Inge’s Picnic, Russell Lees’ Nixon’s Nixon, and Jean Genet’sThe Maids.

  • Public Transportation: Good (Metra Union Pacific North line to the Glencoe stop)

  • Performances/Programs: Tuesday–Sunday
  • Ticket Prices: $60–$65, $30 tickets for people under 30, half-price student tickets available, groups of 10 or more save at least 10%, student and seniors groups of 10 or more save up to 50%
  • Subscriptions: The subscription package for $200 entitles you to 25% off and lots of benefits. Becoming a member for $180 gets you up to 30% off and gives you the most flexibility (only subscribers or members may exchange tickets).
