The York Theatre Company’s two-part mission is to develop new musicals and to preserve old ones. To realize the first part, the York facilitates dozens and dozens of free readings of new shows each year and devotes its mainstage to producing brand new musicals. As far as preserving the old tuners goes, the York Theatre’s “Musicals in Mufti” series has been doing an excellent job of that for nearly 15 years, creating concert stagings of little-known gems like Plain and Fancy, Celebration, The Grass Harp, Greenwillow, and Carmen Jones.

You can find the York Theatre Company on the lower level of St. Peter’s Church, located at Lexington and E. 54th St., under the massive Citigroup Center building.
