With adventurous programming and a basement lounge vibe not to be beaten, Zinc Bar is another Village hot spot with a great reputation for excellent music and atmosphere. Friday nights feature the unsurprisingly niche “African jazz,” and Brazilian jazz is doled out in heavy doses throughout Zinc’s schedule. A healthy balance of known and unknown artists keep things fresh.
The cover charge/drink minimum matrix can be a bit confusing, but plan on a $10 cover and a 2-drink minimum and you’ll be good at all times. (Sometimes it’ll be less, on a rare occasion it might be more.) Be sure to check the listings on the website, since there are poetry jams and comedy shows thrown in the mix from time to time, just to keep you on your toes.
