Founded in 1945 as Schillinger House, as a school designed for the study of jazz music, Berklee College of Music has remained committed to teaching students the music of the time by equipping them with practical skill sets rooted in the professional music world. The New England Conservatory (NEC) has played a significant role in the vitality of Boston’s musical life since its founding in 1867.  Since the beginning of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, NEC faculty and alumni have served as essential members of the orchestra.
