One of Time Magazine’s “Top Five Children’s Theatres in the United States,” the Coterie’s mission is to spark intelligent imagination in the minds of its young audiences and their families.

With six productions annually targeted at three specific age groups, the Coterie presents a unique blend of mostly new and contemporary works, which speak clearly to the issues and aesthetics of 21st century youths. Offering three productions aimed at older students (junior and high school), three for elementary age, and a newly launched At Night Series, targeting college age audiences, the Coterie’s calendar has included such diverse literary works asTales of a Forth Grade Nothing, The Witches of Blackbird PondThe Lord of the Flies, and the world premiere of the acclaimed new drama The Wrestling Season.

Committed to providing an artistic training ground for young Kansas City performers, the Coterie offers a first rate education program (including the hugely popular Young Playwright’s Festival), while professional composers from New York have become drawn to the Coterie’s  development Lab for New Family Musical.
