Media Theatre is a non-profit organization that has been operating as the only professional theatre company in Delaware County since 2000. Located in downtown Media, the theatre itself was originally constructed in 1927 as a vaudeville house that also featured “talkies.” In 1993, Walter Strine, Sr. purchased the property and undertook a major renovation that restored the theatre to its original aesthetic glory. Throughout the ’90s, the theatre was run as a for-profit business under the management of Rockwell Productions. In 2000, when Rockwell abandoned the theatre and its production of live entertainment, a non-profit organization called the Society for the Performing Arts of the Media Theatre took over management of the venue and established the company as it is today. Media’s Broadway Series produces five musicals each year; there is also a Children’s Series of five to six productions annually, as well as a theatre school. (MP)
