The Sarasota Opera (formerly the Asolo Opera Guild), was formed in 1960 and since 1983 has been under the talented artistic leadership of Victor DeRenzi. Recently, the Company expanded and refurbished the historical Sarasota Opera House, expanding and modernizing its amenities, updating and expanding the pit and backstage areas as well, in order to increase the range and repertoire that the Company can perform. The 2008 – 2009 season is their 50th and as a part of their outreach program, they expanded to include a fifth opera that marks the first time they will perform out of their traditional winter season.
