One of only a few such museums in the country, The Light Factory is dedicated to promoting the power of image, through photography, film, and other media. Fans of these disciplines can enjoy the museum’s frequent and free film screenings, video installations, and photography exhibits.

Classes are offered at various levels, so students of these arts can study subjects like Digital Photography, Photoshop, Portraiture, Lighting, and Developing Your Personal Style. The Light Factory’s extensive youth education offerings include darkroom demonstrations, weekend workshops, photography camps, and filmmaking camps that teach about clay animation, documentary filmmaking, and much more.

The Light Factory Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film Information

  • Programs: Screenings of independent films, documentaries, experimental films, shorts, animation, and more are held year-round. Exhibitions of photography and digital art are shown in the museum’s two galleries.
  • Hours: The galleries are open Monday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Admission: Free
  • Subscriptions/Memberships: Museum membership starts at $50 ($25 for students). Benefits include use of the museum’s darkroom (for a small fee), free entrance to lectures, 20% discount on classes, 10% discount on most events, and free admission or discounts at several other institutions dedicated to photography around the country.
