Held every year since 1989 in late August/early September at beautifully rustic Token Creek, this roughly weeklong festival of chamber music is hosted by composer John Harbison and his wife, violinist Rose Mary Harbison. While festival programs prominently feature the works of contemporary composers like Harbison, György Kurtág, William Bolcom, and the late Roger Sessions, they are juxtaposed with the compositions of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and others. In addition to concerts, the idyllic Wisconsin festival events include lecture-recitals, forums, and open rehearsals. Numerous recordings of past Token Creek performances are available.
