The Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin is home to a remarkable set of eclectic student ensembles representing a variety of venerated musical cultures with disparate instrumentation. For example, where else is there the opportunity to see promising young musicians play gamelan music?
The music school is also home to the Center for American Music, which was founded in 2002 to promote exploration of American musical idioms through education. The pedagogically focused Center for Music Learning and the Butler Opera Center also play a prominent role in the musical landscape at UT-Austin.
