Your Guide to the Arts in America!
Encompassing five museums and a research library, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center has expanded greatly since its humble beginnings in 1927. Originally housed in a modest 50 x 70 foot log building created to mimic Buffalo Bill’s ranch house, today the Center is recognized as one of America’s favorite museums.

The Yellowstone Art Museum is the largest museum in the region and includes paintings and sculptures both historic and contemporary, with an emphasis on art and artifacts of the Northwest. The YAM was born in 1964 out of the old Yellowstone county prison, and the much-expanded museum now includes the prison as an exhibit. ...more...
Founded in 1992, Venture Theatre produces edgy and interesting contemporary plays and musicals for adults (recent shows include The Full Monty, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and Evil Dead: the Musical), as well as a few classics here and there. Venture also stages many productions for children and families and provides a number of educational opportunities for youth. ...more...
For over 50 years, the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale has been making beautiful music for the residents of Eastern Montana, South Central Montana, and Northern Wyoming. The BSO&C is truly a community institution, as it not only presents six subscription series concerts every season, but also offers a large number of educational and outreach programs. Several of the orchestra’s “Explore Music!” initiatives serve both students and seniors, and the …more…
Since 1980, the Billings-based Yellowstone Chamber Players has been presenting chamber music concerts of varying instrumentation—from string quartets to wind quintets and more—throughout Montana. The Players’ six-concert seasons are characterized by wide-ranging stylistic scope from Bach and Handel of the Baroque era to Brahms and Schumann of the Romantic period on through to the 20th century. The organization’s preferred venues include art galleries, libraries, churches, and community centers. Tickets are …more…
Known for its landscape and historical significance (both Yellowstone Park and the site of the battle of Little Bighorn are nearby), Billings, Montana has never been synonymous with high art. But, in 1999, after much hard work and frequent disappointment, tenacious opera lovers in this Western city finally established their very own opera company, the Rimrock Opera, which has faithfully produced 1-2 full operas each year since. Originally built by the 20th Century Fox Corporation in the Art Deco style, the Alberta Bair Theater for the Performing Arts was once called the Fox Theater. In the mid-‘80s it was remodeled and named after Alberta Bair, a donor whose family had been homesteaders on the property in the days before it was a theater. The ABT is the longtime home of the Billings Symphony, and it also hosts …more…
