All-Volunteer Start-up Radio Station Brings Jazz Back to Columbus’ Airwaves

Tom Dodge/Columbus Dispatch

Central Ohio lost its only jazz radio station last year when WJZA 103.5 out of Columbus switched over to an all-80s format. Believe it or not, some people actually do still like to consume music via the radio, in that old-school, DJ-driven, “dim the lights and let it play” sense. Sometimes you just want the decisions to be made for you. Against the odds – and, to be clear, the odds are long – a handful of jazz aficionados are giving a Columbus jazz station another shot: WCRX-LP, Jazz 102.1, is on the air, if you can catch it; their transmitter pumps out a whole 55 watts. But they’re doing it. More power to them. (FULL ARTICLE: Jeffrey Sheban, The Columbus Dispatch)
