The Drowsy Chaperone

The Wick Theatre is proud to kick-off their fifth season with The Drowsy Chaperone. The winner of five Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Score, this musical comedy is a loving sendup of the Jazz Age musicals, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. Matinee and evening performances available, tickets $80-$85, www.thewick.org or call 561-995-2333.

“We are delighted to be launching our new season with this fun-filled parody of the American musicals of the 1920’s and 30’s,” said Marilynn A. Wick, Executive Producing Director. “The show-within-a-show concept is a hilarious farce with zany characters, great numbers and of course, incredible costumes!”

Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” The Drowsy Chaperone opens when a modern day musical theatre lover, known simply as ‘Man in Chair’ drops the needle on his favorite album of a 1928 musical comedy. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the musical magically bursts to life on stage, telling the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married, her producer who sets out to sabotage the nuptials, her chaperone, the debonair groom, the dizzy chorine, the Latin lover and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs.

The show is directed by Dom Ruggiero, musical direction by Caryl Fantel. And the cast includes: Laura Hodos as The Chaperone; Bruce Linser as The Man in the Chair; Jennifer Byrne as Janet Van de Graaff; Jacob Thompson as Adolfo; Courter Simmons as George, Angie Radosh at Mrs. Tottendale, Barry Tarallo as Underling and Kevin R. Kelly as Feldzieg.
