Chihuly’s Sets Add Glitter to Seattle Symphony’s ‘Bluebeard’s Castle’

Bluebeard’s Castle is one of Bela Bartok’s masterpieces, and that barely matters in this case. This is not lunacy, we promise, even if, yes, this is Bela Bartok we’re talking about here, maybe the most important composer of the 20th century, because the Seattle Symphony, for tomorrow evening’s performance of the Castle, is bringing back the Dale Chihuly sets from five years ago, and Chihuly has outdone himself with this one. (We’re three thousand miles from Seattle, and say this only on the strength of the images on Chihuly’s website. Go take a look.) There are many other things on the program; it’s at Benaroya, naturally; it starts at 7:30; tickets start at $17. These facts are largely irrelevant. It’s Bartok in front of Chihuly glass.
