It hasn’t been a great couple of decades for Detroit. Downtown is full of long-empty skyscrapers that have trees growing through their windows, and everything that hasn’t been demolished is collapsing on its own because of neglect. That’s the narrative, right? How battered and rundown and empty Detroit is? Well, it looks like Detroit’s had enough of that – after long periods of strife and budget woes, its artistic institutions, and its economy, are slowly starting to grow again.
