Feel the Anticipation: Vegas Philharmonic Debuts at Smith Center Saturday

You’ve heard about this “Smith Center”, yes? This is the place that is going to put Las Vegas on the cultural map, or so the city fathers desperately hope. In truth, a colossal amount of work and thought and effort was put into the construction of the Smith Center, and though it’s only hosted a few events so far, the early notices have been rapturous. The test, though, is this Saturday, when the Las Vegas Philharmonic will break the seal, officially, on the Smith’s Reynolds Hall with Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. The UNLV Concert Singers and Chamber Chorale are also on the bill, along with mezzo Eugenie Grunewald and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society. Big doings. Here we go.
