Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum has undergone a fairly dramatic expansion lately; the 70,000-sq. foot extension, which was deemed necessary because of increased museum attendance and is due to open next Thursday, is the culmination of six years of debate, fundraising and construction. Somewhat overlooked in the glitz and shuffle of the impending relaunch is the loss of a small carriage house, designed by Gardner, that was demolished to make way for the expansion.
