Not much more than a year after the Honolulu Symphony unceremoniously collapsed into a heap of debt and apathy, the islands will once again play host to a working orchestra with the announcement on Wednesday of the new Hawaii Symphony Orchestra’s 2012 Masterworks series. The schedule hits many canonical high points – Beethoven’s Fifth, Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Pictures at an Exhibition – and there are also plans in the works for a Pops series.
