The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has been waiting on a piece of granite which will form the centerpiece of Michael Heizer’s permanent outdoor installation, Levitated Mass, since August, and the odds are good that now they won’t receive the rock until January at the earliest. Of course, this isn’t just a rock – it’s a 21.5 foot tall chunk of solid granite that weighs north of 340 tons, and is right now still stuck in its Riverside County quarry.
