Six years after its abortive union with the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Judah Manes Museum had to watch as its former partner moved into a sleek new Daniel Libeskind building in downtown San Francisco. This largely made the Manes an afterthought in the Bay Area; it averaged a hair over 10,000 visitors a year, a pittance when weighed against the $2 million necessary to maintain the place.
