Why is there such national apathy toward Denver? Am I missing something? It’s got the mountains, a nice downtown, cheap food, cheap drinks, affordable housing, the immortal Mercury Cafe, Red Rocks isn’t far away, and yet I never hear anyone talk about it. Anyway, MCA Denver is right now in the process of giving us a tall, sweating glass of “Here’s what you’re missing, you bums” with West of Center, a sprawling new exhibition about art and the counterculture out there from ’65 to ’77.
